Mandatory Meeting for Basketball Parents

There will be a mandatory meeting for parents of 4th and 5th grade students participating in the Kenton County Instructional Basketball League on October 15th at 6:30 pm in the Kenton Elementary Gym.

Register for Little Pioneers basketball camp

Simon Kenton Basketball is hosting the “Little Pioneer” program for boys and girls in grades kindergarten thru third grade (K-3). This program will focus on the fundamentals of the game as well as 5-on-5 play.

Six KCSD schools recognized by Children, Inc.

Children, Inc. Service Learning Initiative, its sponsors and The Jefferson Award Foundation, with help from the Kenton County public library branches, will be recognizing six Kenton County District schools as 2014-2015 Schools of Contribution in a public poster exhibit.

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month

Did you know that September is National Library Card Sign Up Month? Students and staff in the Kenton County School District are encouraged to get and use their library card.

Prep+ Math Informational Meeting

There will be a Prep+ Math 5th grade student/parent information meeting on Thursday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Summit View Academy cafeteria.

KCSD receives grant from Duke Energy

Duke Energy has given a $25,000 grant to the Kenton County School District in support of the E=WISE and Elementary STEM programs.

FRC News

Join lots of your Kenton friends for a Florence Freedom baseball game!  All you have to do to earn a free student ticket is come to school-so easy!  Any student who has perfect attendance (no absences, no tardies, no leaving early) from Tuesday, April 14th-Wednesday, May 20th will receive a FREE student ticket to the game on Wednesday, June 3rd

KPREP Testing

The testing window for this year’s KPREP state assessment is May 13th-20th.  Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be assessed in the areas of reading and mathematics.  In addition, students in grade 4 will be assessed in science and language skills.  Students in grade 5 will be assessed in social studies and writing.  Please make every effort to have your child at school during these days and avoid scheduling appointments during this period of time.  We need to have all students on time to school each day and ready to SHOW what they KNOW!  Mrs. Huss, Mrs. Coleman and Mrs. Volker will be meeting individually with all students in grades 3, 4, and 5 to review scores from last year and set new goals.

Kenton County FRYSC hosting Summer Camp fair

The Kenton County Family Resource and Youth Service Centers are hosting a Summer Camp Open House at Summit View Middle School on Thursday, March 26 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Students Attend SK Production

Students in first through fourth grade attended the play Alice In Wonderland last week.  Please look for activities coming home in your child’s blue folder that may discuss how costumes and props help a play come to life. These activities align with the program review requirements in Arts and Humanities, K-3 and writing.

Academic Team Champions

Congratulations to the Kenton Elementary Academic team for being the overall winner at the Governor’s Cup Competition this past weekend. Way to go!

Kenton County Academies of Innovation & Technology holding Open House Feb. 10

Students: Interested in joining the Academies for the 2015-2016 school year? Do you want to know more about the Academies in a fun hands-on experience and talk to current Academy scholars? Do you want to meet the teachers for each Academy? Now is your chance! You and your parents are invited to an Academy Open House on Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Edgewood Campus, 3234 Turkeyfoot Road.

Elementary Basketball Tournament begins

We are excited that our elementary schools will be hosting the basketball tournament this year during the week of January 26th.

Kenton Elementary student to serve as Legislative Page

Congratulations to Kenton Elementary fifth grader Ethan Beatty, who has been selected to serve as a Legislative Page in February.  He is the first student from Kenton Elementary to serve as a Page.

The students and teachers, the administrators and the service workers of the Kenton County School District deserve praise for working hard in their roles. But equally deserving of praise are the members of the district’s Board of Education, not only for their work but for their leadership.

Science Fair

Primary students and fifth grade students interested in participating in the science fair may pick up packets in the school office.  The science fair is December 16.

Volunteers Needed

Parents, the PTA is in need of volunteers for Christmas Fest.  We need volunteers who are available between the hours of 5:00pm-8:30pm.  We need help setting up/taking down, helping at the crafts table, serving food/snacks, and assisting Santa.  If you would like to volunteer, please email us at or email Beverly Flaherty at  We look forward to hearing from you!

The chorus will perform at 6:00 pm in the gym.  Concessions, crafts, and Santa Claus to follow after the chorus presentation.

Kenton Elementary Family Resource Center Coordinator Melody Simms is the recipient of the 2013-14 Harry J. Cowherd Award for Center Excellence.

School Yearbook Sales

2014-2015 School Yearbooks will be sold by phone, mail order, or online only this year.  Please click on the link to purchase your yearbook or watch for order forms coming home with students.  Cost for the yearbook is $15.00.

5th Grade Service Learning Project

The Fifth Grade classes of Kenton Elementary have chosen Tori Roser and her Service Dog in training, Albus as our Service Learning Project this year. Tori is a Graduate of the Kenton County Schools and also a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. Her goal is to create a non- profit organization responsible for giving service dogs to families in need free of charge. Albus is her first Service Dog and will go to National K-9 with her to learn how to train service dogs and other trainers.

Real Beauty Workshop

Girls ages 9-11 and their moms (or other female adult) are invited to join us for an evening filled with confidence building and learning what true beauty is all about!  The cost is $5 per pair to cover pizza and snacks for the evening.  Please RSVP to Melody Sims.

Health regulations for the 2015-16 school year

The Kenton County School District, in compliance with Kentucky State Law and regulations from the Board of Health and the Department of Education, would like to remind parents that all children must have certain Health Records on file.

Report Cards

On Wednesday, March 4th report cards will be sent home. Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions.

Document destruction notice

As per the approved record retention schedule of the STATE ARCHIVES AND RECORDS COMMISSION, be it known to all parents and adult students that the Kenton County School District is required to maintain special education records for three (3) years after the date of the last activity. Therefore, the school district will destroy all records it no longer needs three (3) years after graduation or three years after a student exits the district.

Spring Picture Day

Spring pictures will be taken on March 17th. 

Puttin' on the Kids

Mark your calendars for March 14.  We are looking for group, solo, and class acts to perform in this year's show.  The classroom with the most participants will win a pizza party!

Family Math Night

Mark your Calendar for Family Math Night on March 19th from 6:00-7:30pm.  More information about this event will be sent home with your child. This is a fun event for the whole family!
