Congratulations Turkey Foot Future Problem Solving Team
The Turkey Foot Future Problem Solving Team, in only its first year of competition, performed brilliantly in international competition June 9 at Indiana University.
Melanie Dulaney, FPS coach, said the experience was exhilarating. “I cannot begin to describe what an amazing experience it was to mingle with such smart, creative, and fun kids from around the country and world. We did not end up in the top ten, and I don't have the final rankings yet, but based on last year's results, I think we ended up in the middle of the pack of 66 teams. When other teams (especially the other three Kentucky teams) learned that this was the first year for all of the participants and we made it to internationals, they were stunned. That's how much of an accomplishment this was. I'm very proud of not only the performance of our team members (Jonathan Straman, Emily Collins, Madeline Brandel, and Cole Weirich), but with their maturity and superb conduct while at IU. Also, I couldn't have done it without the help of Mr. Straman, Mr. Collins, and Mr. and Mrs. Brandel.”
Mrs. Dulaney is making plans for next year’s team. “I am inspired to expand our team for next year. There are several components in which we can further compete that include scenario writing, individual FPS, and community problem solving. I have no doubt that there are more kids at TFMS that can learn and grow from FPS and have the opportunity to represent our school at state (and perhaps international) going forth.”
