Computer Science Essentials PLTW
9th
Grade Scholars from Simon Kenton, Dixie Heights, & Scott High Schools

This course in the sequence of Computer Sciences studies is offered to freshman in the three Kenton County high schools. Students will experience the major topics, big ideas, and computational thinking practices used by computing professionals to solve problems and create value for others. This course will empower students to develop computational thinking skills while building confidence that prepares them to advance to Computer Science Principles and Advanced Computer Science.

 

Freshman Academy Pathway:

Geometry*

*Scholars enrolling in the freshman pathway B must have completed Algebra I in Middle School.

 

 

Computer Science Principles PLTW
10th
Grade Scholars from Simon Kenton, Dixie Heights, & Scott High Schools

This course in the sequence of Computer Sciences studies is offered to sophomores in the three Kenton County high schools. In this course, students use Python® as a primary tool, while they explore and become inspired by career paths that utilize computing, discover tools that foster creativity and collaboration, and use what they’ve learned to tackle challenges like app development and simulation. This course is endorsed by the College Board, giving students the opportunity to take the AP CSP exam for college credit.

 

Sophomore Academy Pathway: 
Computer Science Principles
Accelerated English II         
Accelerated Algebra II*

*Scholars enrolling in the sophomore pathway for the Academy must take GEOMETRY at their home high school if not already completed.

**Scholars enrolling in the junior pathway for the Academy must have completed Geometry and Algebra II.

 

 

Advanced Computer Science PLTW
11th
Grade Scholars from Simon Kenton, Dixie Heights, & Scott High Schools

This course in the sequence of Informatics studies is offered to juniors in the three Kenton County high schools. In this course, students collaborate to create original solutions to problems of their own choosing by designing and implementing user interfaces and Web-based databases, as well as creating a game for their friends or an app to serve a real need in the their community. This course is aligned to the AP CSA framework.

Cybersecurity PLTW Early Morning Class 7:00am – 7:55am

12th Grade Scholars from Simon Kenton, Dixie Heights, & Scott High Schools

As a capstone course, Cybersecurity allows scholars to explore the tools and concepts of cybersecurity and create solutions that allow people to share computing resources while protecting privacy.
