ACT/SAT: You must take one to be admitted to a college or university (including 2 year colleges). The vast majority of our students take the ACT. However, it is important to find out which exam is required by the school you want to attend. Also, find out if the schools of your choice require the “writing” portion of the ACT and/or the “subjects” portion of the SAT. Test dates are listed on page 5 of your “Getting In” book. All students received this book at their senior interview. You can register for the ACT at www.actstudent.org. Simon Kenton’s high school code (CEEB code) is 181255.

Transcripts: Colleges, Universities, and scholarships committees require a high school transcript from applicants. Transcripts are sent electronically through the Parchment Service. Students will need to create an account at parchment.com/register. Once students have opened an account, they can request that transcripts be sent to identified college and universities. Your student’s college/university of choice will need a final transcript after graduation in addition to the transcript sent during the application process. Please be advised that Parchment has a service charge applied to transcript requests made after graduation.
Financial Aid & FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): Tuition and fees are increasing every year.. You can complete your FAFSA form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. A worksheet is available online to help you gather necessary financial information to complete the process. You cannot submit your FAFSA form until January 1, 2016. To receive grants you MUST file the FAFSA. The state of Kentucky typically runs out of grant money by early February, so all students and families are encouraged to complete and submit this form as soon as possible. Contact the Financial Aid officer at the school you choose to attend for help with financial aid. Many officers take walk-in appointments at the school or you are able to set up and appointment with them directly. There will be a FAFSA Parent Information Night in the SKHS Auditorium on Tuesday, November 10th from 6-8pm.
Scholarships: Information about scholarship opportunities is continuously submitted to Simon Kenton. Please review the Senior Scholarship Bulletins which are distributed at school, located on SK’s website, and published in Simon Says. Information about scholarship opportunities for specific colleges and universities can be found on their school websites. A listing of common KY & Out-of-state school websites was distributed to students with the first senior bulletin, as well as a listing of scholarship search engines.
Letters of Recommendation: Two week notice & completed Senior Data sheet required. A choice of two data sheets are available in the Guidance Office and also on our website. Be mindful of deadlines!
