IMPORTANT: Inclement Weather Alternative Bus Route Plan

Kenton County Schools
Office of the Superintendent
Date: January 10, 2025

Subject: Managing Inclement Weather and School Closures

Dear Kenton County Families, Students, Staff, and Community:
As we navigate the challenges of winter weather, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation as we make decisions that prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community. Managing inclement weather events is never easy, but together, we ensure that the safety of our community remains our highest priority.

First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our support operations staff who work tirelessly to clean and prepare our campuses after severe weather. Their dedication ensures that our schools are safe and welcoming environments for learning once conditions allow. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to all the road crews who brave the elements to clear roads across our community. Their tireless efforts allow families and staff to travel safely and keep our community connected during these challenging times.

When inclement weather arises, we assess multiple factors to determine whether it is safe to have school, including road conditions, the status of school campuses, specific roads and turnarounds that buses cannot travel and weather forecasts. Decisions are made with safety as our number one priority after considering input from various experts and stakeholders, and communicated to families as early as possible.

This week we have experienced a rare inclement weather situation and when these events occur, we must consider alternative strategies to ensure the continuity of instruction for our kids in Kenton County. As a result, we have developed an “Inclement Weather Alternative Bus Route Plan”. When our plan is implemented and announced, we will have school but there will be some roads that our buses will not be able to travel due to the road conditions and/or turnaround conditions. Details about our new plan can be viewed here.

Team Kenton and our extended family, we recognize the impact school closures and delays can have on families, staff, and students. We also recognize the impact these closures have on the continuity of instruction. Your patience, understanding, and flexibility during these times are deeply appreciated. We are fortunate to have such a collaborative and supportive community.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to keep everyone safe during inclement weather events.

Sincerely,
Henry Webb
Superintendent
