The Kenton County Student Nutrition program has been able to provide free meals to all students through federal waivers for the past two years. The waivers have now expired and the district must return to our normal school lunch program that offers students free, reduced, and paid meals. This is not a local decision and the expiration of the federal waivers affects schools across the country. The district will resume free, reduced, and full paid meals on August 17th, 2022.

Parents and Guardians are encouraged to complete an application for meal benefits to qualify for free or reduced priced lunch and breakfast.  The link to the application for free and reduced lunch is embedded below. Families should complete one application per household.  Any student with an approved free or reduced application on file from the 2021-2022 school year will have a carryover status for the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year. Updated free and reduced forms will be distributed to the schools in August. In the meantime, families can complete an online application.

Beechgrove, Caywood, Ft. Wright, River Ridge, Taylor Mill, White’s Tower, and Woodland will continue to offer both breakfast and lunch at no cost to students due to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Parents and Guardians are still encouraged to complete a household income form that will be distributed by the school.

The following meal pricing was approved at the August 1, 2022 board meeting. Due to the increase in supply, labor, and food costs over the past year, there will be a meal increase of $0.35 for student breakfast and $0.25 for student lunch.

2022-23 Meal Pricing:

  • Breakfast:
    • Reduced Students - All Grades: $0.30
    • Full Pay Students - All Grades: $1.75
    • Adults: $2.75
  • Lunch:
    • Reduced Students - All Grades: $0.40
    • Full Pay Students - Grades P-5th: $2.50
    • Full Pay Students - Grades 6-12: $2.75
    • Adults: $4.50

Families can continue to easily pay for school meals online by creating a free MySchoolBucks account. With MySchoolBucks, parents and guardians will be able to view cafeteria purchases, check student’s balance, receive low balance alerts and pay for school meals from anywhere! To get started today, go to or download the mobile app. Money that was in your MyPaymentsPlus account will transfer over to MySchoolBucks.

In recent years, the Student Nutrition Department has absorbed the cost of fees on behalf of families making online payments, but due to a change in the food service technology system and an overall increase in costs to operate the National School Lunch Program we are unable to continue to do so at this time. Please remember that students are always welcome to add money to their lunch accounts with no associated fees by bringing cash or check to school. The fee for online payments will be a flat fee of $2.75 and is not dependent on the amount of money added to student's lunch account, therefore to minimize the impact of this fee we suggest the following options:

  • If it’s possible for your family, increase the amount you deposit in to your student's account when utilizing the online payments, minimizing the number of fees.
  • Send cash or a check to school with your student to be deposited into their account.

Please note that there is no charge for accessing all other features of the online system. If you have any questions, please contact me at 859-344-8888 or email

Thank you,
