Through a partnership with Orangewood Guitars – The Giving Guitar, Give A Note Foundation recently donated 15 guitars to Turkey Foot Middle School after learning from the band director, Jamie Massaro, that many of her guitar students were using duct taped guitars passed down from another school.
Massaro felt her guitar students deserved an opportunity to play with better instruments and contacted Give A Note. Many students do not have the means to purchase their own guitars, and having these instruments available creates a more equitable opportunity for students to learn how to play guitar.
Last year’s guitar students are now in another fine arts rotation for communications and journalism. Give A Note seeks to give these students who played with the sub-standard instruments last year an opportunity to showcase their talents by presenting them with the new guitars.
Give A Note Foundation helped keep music programs alive during COVID with the Let’s Play Music Fund, providing over 13,000 pieces of music-specific PPE to more than 6500 students from 86 schools in 18 states. Participation in music was challenged due to aerosol concerns with performance, school shutdowns and music program furloughs. Give A Note focuses its investments on innovative, non-traditional music programs such as guitar classes to give more students the opportunity to benefit from learning music in school.
