Gifted and Talented

The Kenton County School District identifies and serves gifted youth within our schools to ensure an appropriate level of instruction to reach the potential of each student. High potential learners at the primary level and identified gifted students in grades four through twelve are provided articulated services to differentiate their instruction therefore meeting their individual needs. Our schools offer students in the PTP (Primary Talent Pool – Grades K-3), or in formal identification at grades four through twelve, multiple service delivery options such as acceleration, honors and Advanced Placement courses, collaborative teaching, special counseling services, distance learning, enrichment services, independent study, mentorship, resource services, seminars, and individualized or cluster grouping differentiated instructional strategies.

What is the Gifted and Talented Program for The Kenton County School District?
As defined in 704 KAR (Kentucky Administrative Regulation) 3:285, gifted and talented students include those who are identified as possessing demonstrated or potential ability to perform at an exceptionally high level in general intellectual ability, specific academic aptitude categories of mathematics, language arts, science and social studies, creativity, leadership skills, visual arts and performing arts categories of vocal music, instrumental music, dance and drama.

How are our gifted and talented students identified?
A combination of three informal assessments are used to determine placement in The Kenton County School District PTP (Primary Talent Pool). Formal identification for students in grades four through twelve includes a combination of formal and informal measures, including at least one normed individual or group measure. Our policies provide a system for diagnostic screening and identification of strengths, gifted behaviors and talents of all students including minority students, disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities.
